From New York Caring Majority ... https://www.nycaringmajority.org
It’s not over until it’s over and that’s why we are asking you to make two calls today (see below!).
We know the budget is done, but the NYS legislature is still in session until June 8th.
We’ve been clear we didn’t win everything we’d hoped for in this budget - although we won small raises, we still haven’t won the fair pay that home care workers deserve, and the Governor is still refusing to stop private insurance companies from siphoning hundreds of millions of dollars out of home care.
We can’t do anything more this session about pay rates, but we believe there is still a chance to keep insurance companies from stealing our home care dollars.
Senators May and Rivera and Assemblymember Paulin have introduced legislation (S6963/A7335) to stop insurance companies from stealing home care dollars, and make sure it gets to providers and workers. This language is similar to what we tried to get included in the budget.
There are only 3 weeks left in the session to get this legislation passed, so we need to work quickly.
Can you take 5 minutes to call and/or email your Assemblymember and Senator and ask them to co-sponsor S6963 (Rivera and May) / A7335 (Paulin)?
Look up your state legislators and find their contact info here.
We need to get as many Senators and Assemblymembers as possible to co-sign the legislation.
You can use this message:
Hi my name is [YOUR NAME]. I reside at [YOUR ADDRESS]. All New Yorkers deserve to know that our taxpayer dollars meant for home care actually get to home care, so that home care providers are able to pay workers without going into the red. S6963 (Rivera and May) / A7335 (Paulin) would stop private insurance companies from stealing home care dollars, and make sure it gets to providers and workers. This is the same as the language in the Fair Pay for Home Care act that was omitted from the budget.
Can I count on [NAME OF LEGISLATOR] to co-sponsor?
